Problems encountered when uninstalling and reinstalling labview

Table of contents

During the process of uninstalling and reinstalling labeiw, I always encounter some problems. Record the solutions so that I can find them easily when I encounter them.

Personal recommendation to uninstall

Use the uninstall software that comes with laview to uninstall, and the uninstall is relatively clean.

The first step to complete uninstallation

Start the uninstall software that comes with labview to uninstall. Generally, after completing this step, you can reinstall labview.

Second step of complete uninstall

If during the uninstallation process, due to some reasons, some functions may not be installed after installing labview. If encountered, check “Add/Remove Programs” to see if the entry remains: Go to Start>>Run and type “regedit”, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/National Instruments/Common_Installer, delete it still showing in “Add/Remove Programs” Related registry keys for components in . NOTE: The keys will appear with similar names and a long numeric/letter code after the initial text. I also deleted an IVI service.

The third step of complete uninstall

Use MSIBlast to expose hidden MSI uninstallers and remove them if necessary. For more information and how to complete this section, see the following instructions:
· Download the attached file msiBlast.exe and save it to your desktop or local hard drive. ·Double-click the downloaded msiBlast.exe file to run the executable file. ·Select the “Show NI installers only” option. ·Use (Ctrl + left mouse button click) to select all National Instruments Software shown in MSIBlast to delete. ·Uninstall all National Instruments MSI registry keys

The fourth step of complete uninstall

Clear all references to National Instruments components from your computer. For more information and how to complete this section, see the following instructions:
·Go to your operating system’s START button, select RUN and type “regedit”. This will open the Registry Editor window. Go to the Registry menu and select Export Registry File. Select “All” as the export scope, and then select a file name. This will create a backup of the registry in case something goes wrong while deleting the registry key.
·Remove the following registry components from the Windows registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
ational InstrumentsDelete the entire tree!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
ational InstrumentsDelete the entire tree!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PPCI\, \ISA, or \PMCIA and delete the registry key containing the 1093 key.
Don’t worry if any of these trees aren’t listed. Continue with the remainder of the process.
Note: You may need to modify your security policy. In Windows XP, you can modify security options using Edit>>Permissions in the Registry Editor (regedit).
·Close regedit.
·Make sure that your own VIs or other files are not saved in the “C:\VXIpnp”, “C:\Program files\
ational Instruments” or “C:\WINDOWS\
idaq” folders. If you do this, copy them to another location. If you are concerned about keeping your old virtual channel and SCXI settings intact, please also back up the “C:\WINDOWS\
iconfig.daq” file. Delete all folders and files mentioned above.
· Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (msicuu.zip) and copy it to your hard drive.
NOTE: Two versions of the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility are included in the zip file. The first version of Msicu.exe supports Windows 95/98. The second version Msicuu.exe supports Windows NT/2000/XP.
· Run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility by unzipping the file and selecting the appropriate executable file.
·Restart the computer.

Completely uninstall finishing moves

  • Theoretically, there should be no problem after reinstalling labview after the above operations. If there are still problems, delete all the registry entries containing National Instruments in the registry. Some parts may not be deleted, but there will be no impact. Big, I deleted everything that could be deleted.
  • Delete the information related to labview in the environment variables, such as labview, National Instruments, etc.
  • If there are some plug-ins that cannot be installed, such as VIPM, delete all the ones related to vipm in the registry, and then there will be no problem after installation.

· Run the windows installer clean up utility by unzipping the file and selecting the appropriate executable.

· Reboot your computer.

5. You should be ready to install your software. For the cleanest possible install, first install all of your application development software, such as LabVIEW, Measurement Studio, etc. Do a custom install, so that you can install just the application WITHOUT ANY DRIVERS. Reboot your PC when requested after each install. Even if the installer does not tell you to reboot, it would probably be a good idea to do so anyway. Now install your driver software and follow the associated user manuals. Some older non Plug -n-Play hardware must be installed before the driver. Download the latest versions of the drivers that support your hardware from our Drivers and Updates software library (link below), and install them one-by-one, rebooting after each install.

6. Finally, shut down and re-install your hardware.
